History of this Qigong
Defending against Cancer Walking Qi Gong was developed by a Chinese woman Guo Lin (1906-1984). In 1949 she was diagnosed with uterine cancer and had surgery to remove it. In 1960 she had cancer in her bladder. Another operation removed the cancerous portion of the bladder. With another diangois of cancer later and given only 6 monyths to live she was determined to fight. She recalled the qigong her grandfather a Taoist priest, had taugh t her as a child. She researched and practiced, to no avail. She then studied the ancient Qigong texts willed to her by her grandfather and created her own exercise schedule doing her pracitce of this walking qigong for 2 hours a day. In 6 months her cancer had subsided.
From her experience she believed that this qi gong could help others so in 1970 she began giving lessons in what she called New Qi Gong Therapy. She gave free lessons in the park. The doctors at Beijing hospital noted that some of their cancer patients had tmors that became smaller and some had complete remission. At firt they attributed this to spontoanoues healing or a fluke but as the numbers increased and the patitents reported that they had all studied the walking qigong they decided to investige it. With Guo Lin’s cooperation patients with various kinds of cancer were randomally assigned to studiy with her and do the qigogn walking. With a posittive and signifcant outcome Beijeing Hosptial set up a dept of Qigong and asked her to heaad it. Then other hosptials in China also added qigon departmetns.
Until her death in 1984 she worked tirelessly, curing hundreds of cancer patients, while easing the pain and prolonging the lives of thousands more. With nine assistants she had trained, Guo Lin held nine cancer classes of seventy students each, meeting three times a day. She traveled all over China to twenty provincial capitals to teach this qigong. She became a national celebrity establishing Cancer Recovery Clubs which still exist today with people comign togethre for daily practice. She died in 1984 (twenty years after her life had been given up by Western medicine). Her qigong combined relaxation (sung jing), concentration (yi lian), and breathing (tiao hsi) and movement.
What is the Anti-Cancer Walking Qigong?
The defend against cancer walk is a medical qigong exercises. Qi means energy /life force. Gong means cultivation so qigong means cultivation of life force/energy. According to Chinese medicine stagnant qi, blocked energy, can create an environment for cancer and chronic illness. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, when qi (life force energy) and blood are flowing freely, the body will be blanced and disease will disappear. By practicing qigong, qi, oxygen and blood circulation are improved, meridians are opened allowing unimpeded flow of qi and blood. An insufficient supply of oxygen can increase the growth of cancer. When the body is rich in oxygen, the cancer cells can die. In ancient Taoist text, “Blood is the mother of Qi while Qi is the commander of blood." Per research "there is an increased efficiency of cell metabolism and tissue regeneration through increased circulation of oxygen and nutrient-rich blood to the brain, organs."The more one practices qi gong, the greater the oxygen content in the body. Psychologically instead of feeling like a cancer victim people can do something to empower themselves emotinally and physically. You will learn a special walking and breathing pattern, posture and mental concentration.

1. Qigong increases blood circulation: pregnant and menstruating women and people with internal bleeding, suffering from acute infectious diseases or recovering from oral surgery or trauma should avoid qigong until the condition disappears.
2. Avoid this qigong if you are prone to dizziness, to avoid the risk of falling.
3. Qigong is not for severely disturbed mental patients.
4. Because of the increase in energy levels, people sometimes do not feel the need to eat but proper nutrition should be maintained, People with anorexia should exercise caution.
5. Do not eat for an hour and a half before a session.
6. Avoid sexual intercourse for at least one hour before and after a session as well.
7. Try to exercise at the same time of day and the same days through the week.
8. This qigong is to give healing energy to your body. It is not designed to send energy to others, which could be depleting to your body when you are a new student in spite of the fact that you may feel that you have so much energy you can give it to others. Qigong practice also stresses storing the qi so the energy will be available to the body in the future.
